On her debut CD, Some Hearts this year’s American Idol winner Carrie Underwood kicks off her pop boots, shakes free from R&B and pulls up a country chair. Her decision (okay her label’s) to drop the pop and find a repertoire that fits her proves a more than savvy move. Carrie romps playfully from crossover chart cuts (the title track) and heartfelt country-gospel cruises (“Jesus, Take the Wheel”) to feisty chick country croons ("We're Young and Beautiful"), sassy autobiographical ballads about her country roots ("I Ain't in Checotah Anymore") and good-old fashioned tear in my bear tales of infidelity (“Before He Cheats”).
